I'm Still Here
Sculpture at Scenic World exhibition, 2012
Artist Statement
When we try to pick out anything by itself we find that it is bound fast by a thousand invisible cords that cannot be broken, to everything in the universeā¦*
I'm Still Here examines patterns embedded within nature and the human body, their connections, and subjective realities. Some of the trees in this forest tell tales over 500 years old, layer upon layer of memories, wisdom and magic.
In the forest resilience is paired with fragility; in areas affected by the recent fires an entire dimension has seemingly disappeared⦠the trees and foliage are becoming desaturated into charcoal drawings and shadows.
Suddenly I feel very small.
